Yes, it is. A couple of weeks ago it was just a rumour that another abandoned building of Pécs could find a new purpose. But now, according the local daily bama.hu Pátria, the hotel next to Kórház square that used to be a quite modern establishment in the 1980s is going to be transformed to a luxurious (or at least a well equipped) dormitory and targeted are international students.
The article says that the ex-hotel owned by private investors will have a gym, coffee shop, restaurant and laundry room. It is not mentioned yet how many students could find a temporary home here, but it it’s quite a good indicator that the hotel had 116 rooms. We are going to know more within months since the new facility should be ready by August 2017.
The project would be a much needed upgrade since housing seems to be unsolvable problem for ages in town. We would have loved a similar final solution for the Magasház too but our good guess is that Pécs has missed that boat.
